The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is held annually across the globe in support of prostate cancer charities. Keen as I am to spread awareness of a good cause, I am even more keen to photograph bikers dressing up as chaps and gentlemen for the day.
It was only by chance that I found out about the ride. I had dropped by the local Triumph bike shop to discuss some professional portrait shots and was told that I might want to pop down the next day as this great photo opportunity was scheduled. I am very glad I decided to check it out.
I have to admit my excitement was stoked in part by having recently finished watching 6 seasons of motorcycle club drama Sons of Anarchy. The characters and carefully polished motorcycles did not disappoint.
As the participants gradually arrived, I made conversation and shot some portraits. For a random imposter, I am pleased to report I was made to feel most welcome – testament to either the accepting nature of your average motorcyclist or my honed ability to wander in and act like an official.
It was a fantastic event to photograph and a pleasure to meet some truly distinguished gentlemen doing their bit for prostate cancer. To find out more about the event, visit www.gentlemansride.com.
